In 2023, Material Matters will showcase a curated mix of exhibitors to celebrate the importance of materials and their ability to shape our lives. The selection included global brands, makers, designers, manufacturers, and artists working in materials that ranged from recycled aluminium, clay, wood and glass to orange peel, roots and sugar.

Blake Carlson-Joshua is a London-based (Minneapolis born) designer and a maker exploring the material landscape in a hands on way. His work aims to interrogate and question pre-conceived narratives using a material based approach to the creation of objects. His work often considers the resources around us challenging the notion of ‘waste’ by changing its context entirely.
He will be showing a collaboration seating piece with designer and artist Ella Doran, as well as a series of lights with designer and fellow RCA graduate Purva Kundaje. All the pieces will be made primarily from his newspaper pulp blend.
