In 2023, Material Matters will showcase a curated mix of exhibitors to celebrate the importance of materials and their ability to shape our lives. The selection included global brands, makers, designers, manufacturers, and artists working in materials that ranged from recycled aluminium, clay, wood and glass to orange peel, roots and sugar.

Bill Amberg Studio

  • ROOM 10.1

Bill Amberg Studio has existed for over 30 years, and today stands as an industry leader in bespoke leather products, interiors and furniture.

Bringing together artisans from the worlds of saddlery, bag making, bookbinding and other forms of fine leathercraft, the studio has a mission to explore the aesthetic and material possibilities of leather, while also proudly holding its practices and those of our partner tanneries and suppliers to the industry’s highest ethical and sustainability standards.

Pieces include bags and accessories – with the Bill Amberg iconic ‘Rocket Bag’ in the permanent collection at both London’s V&A and New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art – through to timeless bespoke furniture and interiors for high-end private residences. They count Sir David Chipperfield, Veere Grenney and Amin Taha as clients, and have undertaken commercial projects like the Fine Watch department at Harrods and 22 Bishopsgate, as well as at cultural institutions around the globe, including the Royal Academy of Arts and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Galleries at Westminster Abbey.

At Material Matters, the studio will showcase its unique, sustainable furniture collection made using leather produced from the longhorn cattle and free-roaming deer from the Knepp Estate's celebrated rewilding project – and designed for the estate's new café and farm shop.
