Cascara is an Australian-based material design company, founded by Claire Chan, developing Cascara Stone. It embraces principles of circularity and nature-inspired design, sourcing renewable and biodegradable inputs that are regenerative to their environments.

Cascara is committed to finding new material sources and unlocking possibilities, working closely with architects and designers in the quest to create sustainable, visually stunning built environments.

Cascara Stone is a customisable bio-based stone tile designed for architectural features and surfaces. Material Matters marks the first unveiling of Cascara Stone for public view, showcasing prototypes that explore nature-inspired design.

Crafted meticulously by hand from local Oyster, Mussel, and Pipi shells, Cascara Stone breathes new life into the otherwise discarded shells. It boasts performance and aesthetics comparable to traditional stone tiles and celebrates the natural nacre and colour of the shells.

Due to it’s composite design there is boundless potential for customisation to be imagined in shape, size, aggregate, colour, and finish. This versatility makes it an ideal choice for various applications within the built environment.
