the brands of 2022

In 2022, Material Matters showcased a curated mix of over 40 exhibitors to celebrate the importance of materials and their ability to shape our lives. The selection included global brands, makers, designers, manufacturers, and artists working in materials that ranged from recycled aluminium, clay, wood and glass to orange peel, roots and sugar.

Ceramics, lighting, product, material. room 13.6

Founded by artist, maker and designer Helen Johannessen, HJ Keramikk  focuses on illuminated and illusionary surfaces, as well as the sensory experience. Johannessen is a highly proficient porcelain and plaster sculptor who works with traditional techniques to fabricate elegant ceramics for interior and exterior settings, using minimal material to its maximum effect.

Making in her central London studio at Cockpit Bloomsbury, Johannessen has recently completed commissions in Italy and France, projects for both commercial and private collectors. She is a Royal College of Art graduate (2017) and recipient of accolades and awards from the UK, Scandinavia and Asia.
