the brands of 2022

In 2022, Material Matters showcased a curated mix of over 40 exhibitors to celebrate the importance of materials and their ability to shape our lives. The selection included global brands, makers, designers, manufacturers, and artists working in materials that ranged from recycled aluminium, clay, wood and glass to orange peel, roots and sugar.

Furniture. room 10.1
Modet was founded by Irish designer Paul O’Brien in 2017. After studying fine art and sculpture in London, O’Brien pursued a career in furniture making, training in Fine Woodwork at the prestigious Building Crafts College in East London. Immediately on graduating, his talent was spotted by the world-renowned Joseph Walsh Studio in County Cork, Ireland, where he honed his craft as one of a select international team of craftsmen.

Modet’s output reflects O’Brien’s unusual combination of fine art training, exceptional craftsmanship and refined design. Since its foundation, the studio has won a number of awards including the Royal Dublin Society Craft Award, Ireland’s largest, most significant craft prize.
