In 2023, Material Matters will showcase a curated mix of exhibitors to celebrate the importance of materials and their ability to shape our lives. The selection included global brands, makers, designers, manufacturers, and artists working in materials that ranged from recycled aluminium, clay, wood and glass to orange peel, roots and sugar.
Rowena Liangru Lu

Rowena Liangru Lu is an artist who flirts with the design world by creating artworks about design byproducts.
At Material Matters, she will show Serious Play – a sculptural exploration into children’s play, and the potential to create. For her, the process of material discovery and unique assembly methods speak to the act of playing.
While all shapes are borrowed from objects in her kitchen (look closely and you might see a pot, a baking tray, chair legs, and a wine bottle) she says this project transformed her into a 'kidult'.
