Transforming London’s waste into sculptural furniture and surfaces
Blast Studio is a London-based company turning discarded coffee cups, food packaging, and other paper waste into Cupsan - a strong, sustainable matterial with a stone-like look. Made with a natural binder, Cupsan can be cut, glued, varnished, and sanded, revealing marbled patterns that show hints of the original waste. They are committed to ultra-local production, sourcing and processing waste entirely within London, with the vision of cities built from their own waste.
At Material Matters 2025 Blast Studio will showcase the versitility of Cupsan. The collection includes a sculptural lamp, a small table with a 3D-printed leg and Cupsan tabletop, and a coffee table designed in collaboration with OpenDesk. At the centre of the display, a “cabinet of curiosities” presents their board material in a range of finishes and colours - from raw, stone-like surfaces to sanded finishes.
