Pioneering bioplastics for smarter, sustainable living

crafting plastics! studio is an award-winning design-research practice founded in 2016 by Vlasta Kubušová and Miroslav Král in Bratislava, Slovakia. The studio explores the intersection of science, design, and sustainability, pioneering new generations of ecological bioplastics and biocomposites.

Their work spans from consumer products to architectural systems, always guided by principles of circularity, trandparency, and environmental care. By bridging experimental research and real-world applications, crafting plastics! studio demonstrates that bioplastics can be durable, intelligent, and ready to transform daily life.

At Material Matters 2025, crafting plastics! studio presents Responsive Matter: Bioplastics Ready to Live With You - a collection of four works that bring sensing, living-like qualities into interiors. Sensables, 3D-printed NUATAN® stools and tables that shift colour in response to UV radiation; Sensbiom 2.1 Interactive Wall, a foldable lattice coated with a responsive bioskin that reveals UV exposure; Breazea Wall Divider, modular biodegradeable panels acting as breathable, light-filtering partitions for healthy interiors; Biowall Prototype, a hydronic wall prototype with pH-reactive plastics that visualise soil health.
