Designing with nature
Only Natural is a global initiative championing the use of natural materials, including wool, hemp, leather and wood, in contemporary design. Through education, collaboration and industry partnerships, it promotes renewable, durable alternatives to synthetic materials while encouraging a deeper understanding of material choice.
At the centre of the programme is the Only Natural International Student Design Competition, which invites emerging designers to explore the creative potential of natural fibres across furniture, fashion and interiors. At Material Matters Copenhagen 2026, Only Natural will present a selection of award-winning projects, highlighting how the next generation is working with bio-based materials to rethink sustainability, craft and production.
