Making Space to Make
Benchspace. is building a new model for the modern workshop: clean, welcoming and professionally equipped spaces where furniture makers, joinery startups and designers can turn ideas into products. Founded by George Harding and Simon White, the London-based workshop provides access to commercial-grade machinery alongside the tools, systems and knowledge needed to support makers at every stage of their journey. Its approach combines precision joinery with a strong emphasis on wellbeing, community and the development of sustainable creative businesses.
For Material Matters London, Benchspace. will recreate a working workshop environment centred around a communal workbench. The workbench will be assembled and finished at the fair, combining digital fabrication with hands-on making. More than a piece of furniture, it represents Benchspace's belief in the workshop as a place to make, share knowledge, exchange ideas and build connections between makers.
