Turning Coffee Cups into Circular Surfaces

London-based Blast Studio is rethinking one of the city's most overlooked waste streams by transforming discarded paper coffee cups into Cupsan – a high-performance interior material used for furniture, wall panelling and bespoke fit-outs. Developed and manufactured at the studio's micro-factory in Park Royal, Cupsan combines recycled coffee cup fibre with a natural binder to create a durable material that has the visual character of terrazzo with the warmth and tactile quality of timber.

At Material Matters London, Blast Studio will present a range of tabletops, counters, furniture cladding and, for the first time, wall panelling made from Cupsan, alongside new colourways developed from locally collected coffee cup waste. Working closely with architects, designers and developers, the studio demonstrates how urban waste can become a valuable material resource through thoughtful design and local manufacturing.
