Connecting Design Across Borders

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and around the world. Through its Architecture, Design and Fashion programme, it creates opportunities for UK designers to collaborate and exchange knowledge with international counterparts, using design to explore social, cultural and environmental challenges. .

At Material Matters London, the British Council brings this international perspective to the conversation around materials, making and responsible design. Its Making Matters programme explores how circular economy principles can encourage creativity, collaboration and regenerative thinking across architecture, design and fashion, with a particular focus on materials, skills and knowledge exchange. Making Matters: Circular Cultures extends this work across the UK and Europe, creating networks for designers working with sustainability and circularity.
