Connecting Design Across Borders
The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and around the world. Through its Architecture, Design and Fashion programme, it creates opportunities for UK designers to collaborate and exchange knowledge with international counterparts, using design to explore social, cultural and environmental challenges.
At Material Matters London, the British Council brings this international perspective to the conversation around materials, making and responsible design through a showcase of the New Landscapes programme. Delivered in partnership with University of Arts London's Fashion, Textiles and Technology Institute, New Landscapes explores UK–India collaboration in sustainable fashion, textiles and technological innovation. The programme helps to recognise India’s global importance in textile production, manufacturing capability and craft heritage, alongside the UK’s strengths in design innovation, advanced research, and markets.
