Turning Carbon Into Opportunity

Replacing plastic is one challenge; replacing plastic foam is another entirely. Carbon Cell has developed a patent-pending, plastic-free foam made with carbon-negative biochar, offering designers and manufacturers a compelling alternative to conventional polymer-based foams. Lightweight, durable and bio-derived, the material is designed for applications ranging from packaging and acoustic panels to interiors, composites and product design.

At Material Matters London, Carbon Cell will demonstrate the versatility of its material platform through a series of prototypes, including plant pots, packaging and acoustic solutions, highlighting how a single material can perform across multiple sectors. Recently recognised as one of Dezeen's best 25 designs of 2025 and among CleanTech Group's top 50 startups to watch, the company is looking to collaborate with brands, designers and manufacturers keen to reduce their reliance on fossil fuel-derived plastics and explore the potential of next-generation carbon-negative materials.
