Transforming floral waste into architectural materials
Made with Love is an interior building system developed from discarded roses collected from supermarkets and public gardens. Taking a ‘nose-to-tail’ approach to the flower, stems form structural frameworks, petals and leaves become composite surfaces, while the rose’s thorns are used as mechanical fixings within a 3D-printed bio-resin joinery system. By designing around the plant’s natural variation, the project explores how locally available floral waste can become a resource for architecture and interiors.
At Material Matters London, Made with Love will present a custom-built corridor installation made from discarded rose stems, connected using a modular 3D-printed node system that uses the thorn itself as a locking device. Also on show will be a new collection of rose-petal tiles for kitchens, bathrooms and wall surfaces. Each tile retains the natural variation of the flowers used and can also be commissioned using a client’s own blooms.
