Staged as part of 3daysofdesign 2025, the fair took over a striking canal-side venue in Christianshavn and welcomed more than 3,000 visitors from over 30 countries. The ambition? To put material intelligence front and centre in conversations around architecture, design, sustainability, and innovation. And it delivered.

Twelve exhibitors were brought together with care and purpose ranging from Hydro’s explorations in post-consumer aluminium to delicate, handmade work by studios including Jo Andersson, Abalon, and Utility & Utopia. Plastic reuse and 3D printing innovations from The New Raw, Patch Design, and Copenhagen-based studio 91–92 added a future-facing edge, while Spanish brand Texidors brought refined, ethical textiles into the mix.

On the hardware side, wood and concrete switches by Kjaer + Loege offered tactile simplicity, and Aifunghi made a standout debut with its unexpectedly opulent mycelium-based furniture collection.

Downstairs, Material Resistance presented work by Ukrainian designers working in the most difficult of conditions. Sourced from across the country, the installation was a sobering, moving, and vital expression of resilience through design. Meanwhile, AHEC Europe brought things full circle with No.1 Common, a beautiful installation that celebrated natural variation in American hardwoods, a quiet but powerful counterpoint to the idea of uniform perfection.

Talks throughout the fair explored the themes of colour, light, circularity, and how we choose the materials that surround us. From opening night through to the final panel, conversations were engaged, audiences curious, and the room always buzzing.

The response to this first edition has been overwhelming and we’re delighted to confirm that Material Matters Copenhagen will return in 2026. If you're interested in exhibiting or sponsoring next year’s fair, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch here
