Textile Meets Ceramic
Founded by designer, maker and material-led creative Amy Saunders, Shifu Artisans brings more than 25 years of experience across textiles, interior finishes and product design to a new independent ceramic practice. Based in Asia, the studio combines deep regional sourcing and production knowledge with a hands-on approach to material research, colour, form and product development. Its work moves from experimentation and prototyping through to commercially viable products for interiors and architectural environments.
At Material Matters London, Shifu Artisans will present Morphology™, an evolving ceramic collection made with 50% recycled ceramic content. The M2 Textile Texture Tiles translate the tactile qualities and structures of woven textiles into two-dimensional ceramic surfaces, while M3 ‘Braid’ explores concave and convex oval forms as a three-dimensional architectural relief system. Together with the supporting ‘Ellipse’ vase, the collection considers how texture, colour, pattern and material can move between disciplines to create objects and surfaces that are both tactile and architectural.
