Printing with Nature
London-based SOFTTRACE STUDIO is exploring how biomaterials and digital fabrication can reshape the products we live with every day. Founded by designer Shuting Lei, the practice develops TraceMatter™, an evolving family of bio-based 3D-printing materials that transform natural by-products into tactile, low-impact materials for designers, architects and makers.
At Material Matters London, SOFTTRACE STUDIO will preview TraceMatter™ ahead of its commercial launch, introducing new PHA-based biocomposite filaments made with shell powder and seaweed residue. Alongside raw material samples, visitors will discover experimental objects, surface studies and an ongoing soil-exposure project demonstrating the material's biodegradation. The exhibition offers a compelling vision for locally produced, low-waste manufacturing and the future of circular material innovation.
