Studio TIP is a new creative practice founded by Katie-May Boyd and Charlotte Kidger, which aims to find local, circular solutions for waste resources. Its mission is to uplift and utilise undervalued materials to benefit industry, community, and the environment collectively.
For its launch project at Material Matters, the studio has created Tip Takes at the entrance of Bargehouse. The installation is an active research piece which investigates how creative value and reuse of materials could improve circularity within the construction industry. Studio TIP has taken 2.5 tonnes of waste material donated by John F Hunt from a central London site that was intended for down-cycling and created a sculptural installation where visitors can select, reserve, and collect any materials they would like to reuse free of charge. Boyd and Kidger have also designed virtual ‘passports’ that give visitors background information about each material when they scan a QR code.
The project is sponsored by B Corp built environment engineering and sustainability consultancy, Elliott Wood.
