Another present theme for the fair this year is Bio Materials. Mushlume lampshadesare grown utilising hemp combined with a rapidly renewable living organism, mycelium creating a 100% biodegradable product. Sabrina Merayo Nuñez will be exhibiting a series of lighting works based on a memory foam which is made from a variation of her collagen-based bioplastic recipe. Speculative Surfaces is currently developing lab-grown leather grown from bacteria and yeast that it will be showing at the fair demonstrating the strength of the material. In an Intriguing collaboration Manuel Arias & VTT showcases the potential of biotechnology through mycelium leather-like materials that could offer alternatives to animal and synthetic leather as well as plastics in the near future. Mari Koppanen is exploring amadou, a leather-like material derived from tinder mushrooms
